HQ
Racing Nationals:
The idea to race HQs was created
by a group of enthusiasts
in Tasmania, who could see
that there was a need for
a class of racing that the
average person on the street
could get into at a relatively
low cost.
The
first official HQ race was
held at Baskerville Raceway
in October 1988, expanding
to its first hitout on the
mainland at Winton Raceway,
Victoria, in August the
following year.
HQ
Racing continued to grow
quickly reaching 500 competing
cars, and the series is
truly national, with all
states and territories represented.
To
keep costs low, development
has been kept to a minimum,
with cars running the 202
‘red’ motor,
three-speed gearboxes and
standard differentials.
Suspension, camshafts and
tyres are control items.
