Kumho
Tyres Australian Saloon Car Series
Holden versus
Ford rivalry is alive and well
in the 'tin top' Kumho Tyres Saloon
Car ranks. Running recent model
Holden Commodore and Ford Falcons,
this popular form of Australian
motor racing is fast and affordable.
The Saloon Car category was conceived
utilising six cylinder Ford Falcon
EA to EB, and Holden Commodore
VN to VP models – and orchestrated
to produce close racing and inter-marque
rivalry.
Ultimately later model AU Falcon
and VT Commodore models have become
the mainstay of the category with
the older models back filling
at National level as well as providing
the backbone of a strong state
(TASSCO Challenge) series, particularly
in West Australia, Victoria and
Queensland.
With the identifiable Aussie icon
six-cylinder cars consistently
producing surprisingly quick lap
times, it is not hard to see why
the Saloon Car Championship has
developed a significant following.
Don't be fooled by the family
sedan image. These machines are
true racecars, with straight-line
speed of over 250km/h. The
category constantly monitors parity
between the cars to ensure hard,
close racing and great entertainment.
