ENDURO TITLE TO BE DECIDED AT SERIES IPSWICH DEBUT

Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia will this weekend make its debut appearance at Queensland Raceway, where the 2012 Endurance Championship will be decided.

Having never raced on the 3.12 km Ipswich circuit, the all-Porsche series will hold its third endurance race of the season this Saturday at twilight to decide the 2012 victor of the Jim Richards Endurance Trophy.

The three-race endurance championship held its first long-distance race at the 2012 season opener at Mallala Motor Sport Park, where a triumphant John Modystach took the early endurance points lead from Jeff Bobik, John Goodacre and Kane Rose.

The following endurance race at Winton Motor Raceway then saw series leader Rose take victory in the eventful second Jim Richards Endurance Trophy race from Brent Odgers, Michael Almond, Jon Trende, Philip Woodbury and sixth-placed Modystach.

With this victory, Rose took the lead in the Endurance Trophy standings with 50 points - only four points ahead of Modystach on 46 points – with the Victorian hopeful to secure his maiden Jim Richards Endurance Trophy crown this weekend in his first appearance at the Queensland track.

“I’m hoping we can grab the Jim Richards Endurance Trophy. We haven’t been to Queensland Raceway before and there are a few guys who are locals at that circuit, which will make things quite difficult,” said Rose.

“We’re positioned well going into the last endurance race – currently in first place – so hopefully we can keep in front by the end.”

This year’s winner will be the second Jim Richards Endurance Trophy recipient following Roger Lago’s endurance success in the award’s inaugural year in 2011.

The Jim Richards Endurance Trophy will be presented at the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia Awards Nights in September.

This Saturday’s 40-lap twilight race will be followed by two 20-minute races on Sunday for the penultimate round of the 2012 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia season.

Sunday’s racing from the Shannons Nationals Motor Racing Championships from Queensland Raceway, including Race 2 and Race 3 of Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia, will be streamed live at www.thenationals.com.au.
