Swifts Wakefield Park Saturday Report
A totally different vista greeted the Hi-Tec Oils Australian Swift racing series competitors as they prepared for the competitive aspect of the weekend at Wakefield Park raceway, the sun was shining and the clouds stayed away for great day of racing.
Morning practice saw Damian Ward (Hi-Tec Oils #11) continue his dominance but Allan Jarvis (Achilles Radial #1) taking to the track for the first time easily fitted into second on the time sheet. With the charging Reece Murphy (Gen-Tech Performance #62) leading the rest.
Qualifying had Reece Murphy taking pole position with the usual protagonists in the series points race Allan Jarvis and Damian Ward filling P2 and P3.
Series new comer Scott Gore (Future Assist Group #99) fought hard for P4 with brother Mike Gore (Future Assist Accounting #47) taking P5. Jamie MacMaster (Macline Group #9) filled P6, Rob Jarvis (BVC racing #17) P7 and Ben Foessel (Motor School #7) rounded out the field.
The weekends race 1 did not disappoint as the Wakefield layout suits the light weight front wheel drive Swift sports and in a repeat of the QR round the series points leaders all shared first place over the first lap when Allan Jarvis jumped inside Murphy and Ward into turn 10.
What followed was another eleven laps of dog fighting all over the field with the brothers Gore providing as much excitement racing for P4 as Murphy and Jarvis raced for the win.
Reece Murphy came through for the checkered flag over Allan Jarvis with Damian Ward home in third. Scott Gore held on for fourth over Mike Gore after swapping some paint and Rob Jarvis lead home Jamie MacMaster and Ben Foessel.
Tomorrows reverse grid race 2 looks to be a real battle as the parity of these cars makes it imperative to get off the line well and it will have our three series leaders working hard to get through the field and into clean air.
