Pedders Racing wrap up class E for 2012
The Pedders Racing Team have wrapped up the Class E Championship in the 2012 AMC and close the book on their mighty Proton Satria’s racing history.
This final round for the 2012 Championship and Shannons Nationals series saw the team come together in a last ditched effort to put on a great show for the public and their special guests for the weekend.
The team were able to welcome several special guests at this event to see the Proton off in its last race including Heidi Yi from Heidi Yi Cosmetics who did a fantastic job looking after our promotional models and ARC competitor Mark Pedder of Pedders Suspension who has been an avid supporter of the team’s efforts over the last two years.
Saturday’s practice and qualifying were anything but what the team had expected with Phillips having the gearbox explode after just 4 laps in his qualifying period. Fortunately it occurred close to the pit entry and he was able to coast back to the garage so that the crew could pull the gearbox out while a replacement was delivered thanks to Jay at Fluidrive Bendigo.
With minutes to spare the car was ready to hit the track for the first forty minute race of the weekend. Having no competition in our class for the weekend all we had to do was to bring the car home in one piece and finish both races.
Having a few minor issues to manage the Valvoline supported team were fortunate to have access to Pedders Suspension head office for the use of their Research and Development workshop enabling the team mechanics the opportunity to provide the team with an environment to give the drivers a solid vehicle to get through the final forty lap race.
The Pedders Racing Team were able to take additional time to make final adjustments on Sunday due to the late start for the category and to take the opportunity to help promote the team, the sponsors and the AMC throughout the late morning and early afternoon. Having amazing support from the likes of Bosch and PBR the drivers and crew ensured that every opportunity was taken to get out and be seen.
Race two was a far more enjoyable drive for Grant Phillips and Andrew Turpie with both drivers managing the Protons progress throughout the 40 lap event having only a slipping alternator belt to contend with. The DBA brake package had looked after the drivers all year with absolutely no issues and their fantastic stopping power was never more evident until the last lap where the car was almost caught up in a moment when two of the Pedders Class A cars came close to rubbing panels with the Proton.
Grant Phillips and Andrew Turpie shared a class victory for this event which ensured that both drivers were able to secure first and second respectively in the AMC Class E Drivers Championship points score. The team also took out the Class E Championship which was mathematically done as of the end of the Queensland round. Claiming these victories for two years in a row, the team really have stepped up to the mark and made a fantastic transition from club level racing to National competition.
The Pedders Racing Team would like to particularly thank the almost 30 other team entries that have competed throughout 2012, not only has the racing been exciting and fun but the mateship it has built between rival teams and drivers has just been outstanding. The team would also like to recognise the many volunteers and officials that have made all of the AMC events so successful, your dedication and enthusiasm truly are appreciated.
The Pedders Proton now heads into a new phase of its racing life with a new owner, you will no doubt see it regularly at venues such as Winton, Sandown and Phillip Island as a club level entry.
In 2013 Pedders Racing will be competing in a brand new Toyota and it is with much excitement that the team heads into this new relationship with such an amazing manufacturer. To be taking their latest products out into a racing environment will be a huge milestone for the team and a major boost for the category.
The entire team at Pedders racing wish you all a safe and Merry Christmas with a new year full of fantastic racing.
