Lukasz to make National Swift debut at Mallala
Crafers teenager Mitchell Lukasz will make his Australian Swift Racing Series debut on home soil next week as the Shannons Australian Motor Racing Nationals bring their second round to Mallala Motorsport Park.
Lukasz formed part of the inaugural Swift Series Drivers’ Challenge in Queensland where the winner received a fully funded drive in the series for 2013, Mitchell was a runner up to the win, however it has instilled him with a wealth of confidence leading into his home event.
“I was happy with my performance at the Swift drivers’ challenge, my abilities compared exceptionally to regulars from the category and others who had experience in National level categories, who have far more experience than myself,” said Lukasz.
Mitchell has spent the last three years developing his skills as a driver in local South Australian hillclimbs competing in his Father’s Nissan 200SX tarmac rally car. In that time, has achieved a number of strong results including; runner up at the 2011 State Hillclimb Championships and class winner at the 2011 Mt Alma Mile Hillclimb.
“It’s been an incredible experience so far competing in the Hillclimb events, it’s given me the confidence to move forward towards my debut in the Swift Series knowing my abilities behind the wheel,” Lukasz added.
In light of a lack of door to door racing experience, Mitchell is hopeful of a smooth transition to the circuit which has been a long time goal for the petroleum and mechanical engineering student.
“I was unsure what to expect racing side by side on the track before the Drivers’ Challenge, however, having that experience has filled me with confidence for the first round and I’ll be looking to impress with top five results across the weekend,” Lukasz stated.
Mitchell has worked hard to secure funding from several local businesses including; IMS Event Medical, Joe Cool’s Air conditioning, Taplin Real Estate, Southside Suzuki and The Aldgate Pump Hotel.
“I can’t thank the businesses enough that have come on-board to support me in my quest to race at Mallala, my key goal now will be to secure a good result and seek a major sponsor to fund the remainder of the year,” Lukasz concluded.
Round 1 of the Hi-Tec Oils Australian Swift Racing Series will be run in conjunction with the second round of the 2013 Shannons Australian Motor Racing Nationals at Mallala Motorsport Park from April 19-21.
