PORSCHE RECORD HUNTER
WITH THE PORSCHE GT3 CUP CHALLENGE presented by Pirelli series already in the bag, the category’s standout performer Richard Muscat can set some interest milestones this weekend at the Phillip Island final round in GenisSteel/Muscrete Constructions Porsche GT3 Cup 997.
At the seventh round of the Shannons Motor Racing Championships on the September 21-22, the bucket list will be to gain the most amount of race wins in a season, improve his number of top qualifying spots, add another category lap record, and post a trifecta of race fastest laps.
This season so far, Muscat has been the fastest qualifier at four of the five rounds, only missing out on a perfect score when the round four grid-deciding session was terminated short of it scheduled duration after two of his major rivals crashed into each other. Pole position this weekend would mean five out of six.
Muscat has won ten of the 15 races contested in the 2013 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge presented by Pirelli and can stretch that number to 13 this weekend. At the fourth round he was well on the way to achieving the most amounts of wins in a row until suspension failure put that out of reach.
He has also had a phenomenal success ratio in achieving the fastest race lap. On 15 occasions nobody has been faster than Muscat and his GenisSteel/Muscrete Constructions Porsche GT3 997 in race conditions and five times the combination have set new lap records for the category.
An added incentive at this round is the chance to score a Porsche 911 road car for a week, loaned by Porsche Cars Australia, to the class winners of race two, which in its sixth year, marks the 100th GT3 Cup Challenge race held in Australia.
“It has been a huge year and I have to thank the GT3 Factory, GenisSteel, Genesis Australia and Muscrete Constructions for their continued support and to my team for continually giving me best prepared car out there,” Muscat said.
