LOOKING FOR A RECORD WEEKEND

THROWING DOWN THE GAUNTLET at the fourth round of the Kerrick Australian Sports Sedan Series at Phillip Island today, Victorian Darren Hossack was comprehensively faster than the lap record on his way to starting the first of three races from pole position tomorrow.

His Auto Union Deutsche Chev V8-powered Audi A4 was 1.2secs faster than arch rival West Australia’s Tony Ricciardello in the B & M Ricciardello Motors Alfa/Chev while third quickest was the Rent Depot Aston Martin/Chev of defending title holder and current series leader Kerry Baily (Queensland).

Fourth fastest and the quickest of the Trans Am cars was the Aston Air Conditioning Chev Camaro of Shane Bradford (Qld) who is second in the title hunt while Victorian Daniel Tamasi was fifth despite missing much of the second qualifying session, having spun his Luxury Auto Body Calibra/Chev out at turn 12 early on.

The Bell Real Estate Holden Monaro/Chev of Michael Robinson (Vic) was sixth fastest ahead of the Campbell Roof & Trusses Jaguar/Chev of NSW’s Dameon Jameson which had also had dramas in the second timed outing. Next was Tasmanian Bruce Banks who had raced a Chev Camaro to third in the series but has reverted back to his Mazda RX7 for this round.

The Queenslander cars of Anthony Cox (Saab/Dodge), Colin Smith (Holden Monaro/Chev) and Bob McLoughlin (Commodore/Chev) filled the next three places ahead of the Chev Corvettes of Dean Camm (Vic) and Charlie Senese, and the six cylinder Holden Torana of Damian Johnson. The Ford Mustang of Phil Crompton didn’t qualify having broken an engine crank.

The Kerrick Sports Sedans are set to hit the circuit for three 9-lap races tomorrow Sunday September 22, scheduled for 10:10am, 1:40pm and 4:00pm.
