V8 SUPERCAR DEVELOPMENT SERIES TEAM ANNOUNCES KUMHO SERIES PLANS

Eggleston Motorsport secures pair of ex-Toll HSV Dealer Team Commodores for two-car 2014 program

V8 SUPERCAR Development Series team Eggleston Motorsport has confirmed plans for a two-car team in next year’s Kumho Tyres Australian V8 Touring Car Series.

The Melbourne-based team has secured a pair of Walkinshaw Racing-built, ex-Toll HSV Dealer Team Commodore VZs for their Kumho Series program, which will be run alongside their multi-car V8 Supercar program.

The team recently secured the very car that Rick Kelly won the 2006 V8 Supercar Championship aboard – the same car involved that year in the controversial season-deciding race with Craig Lowndes at Phillip Island – it also finished second in the ’06 Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000.

The second car was the sister chassis driven by Garth Tander during the 2006 season which led that year’s championship until the endurances races and competed most recently in last year’s Kumho Series final round at Sandown in the hands of Marcus Zukanovic.

“We’ve had overwhelming interest from drivers in our Development Series campaign this year so we have decided to expand the business into the increasingly popular Kumho Series,” says Eggleston Motorsport Team Manager Rachael Wagg.

“The Development Series is incredibly competitive and, without prior V8 experience in the Kumho Series or similar, starting in the DVS has become difficult for drivers.

“We see our entry into the Kumho Series as creating our own development program for drivers to learn and refine their skills before they progress in V8 racing.

“Having cars with such rich and successful history, in addition to our knowledge and experience with these cars, makes us confident they will be the most competitive package on the grid in 2014.”

“The Kumho Series cars will also be a benefit to our DVS campaign, giving our drivers the opportunity for more seat time, while our Kumho drivers will also have the opportunity to sample the DVS cars.”

The team plans to test drivers for its 2014 Kumho Series campaign in the near future.

The Kumho Tyres Australian V8 Touring Car Series for ex-V8 Supercars is holding its final round of 2013 at Sandown Motor Raceway in Melbourne this weekend on November 16-17.
