WINNER LEAVES OTHERS TO DECIDE PLACES

THE DIAL BEFORE YOU DIG Australian Saloon Car Series winner for 2013 may have been already been decided, but there is still a lot at stake at Sandown Raceway’s final round this weekend.

Victorian Simon Tabinor had gone back-to-back in taking out this year’s Ford verses Holden six cylinder contest with his Holden Commodore VT and will not be contesting round six, thus paving the way for as many as six others to decide the final minor placing for 2013.

Currently second is in the hands of fellow Victorian Harley Phelan in his Commodore ahead of the Ford Falcon AUs of West Australia’s Travis Sharpe and Queenslander Lindsay Kearns with just 26 points covering them.

Wayne King from South Australia had only competed at three of the five rounds but has been a consistent winner or place getter, so much so that he is fifth overall. But his VT is not entered for the final round. Therefore it would be expected that his position will slide with the VTs of Queenslander Craig Campbell and Victorian Gavin Ross, plus the AU of NSW’s Ian Chivas within striking distance.

Of the 26 entries, there will be 17 Fords competing against nine Holdens. Ten drivers are local Victorians while there will be five Queenslanders, five West Australians, five from New South Wales and a lone South Australian.

The Dial Before You Dig Australian Saloon Car Series will have three private practice sessions on Friday November 15 at 9:10am, 11:25am and 2.55pm, two qualifying sessions on Saturday November 16 at 9:15am and 10:55am and race one at 2:20pm over ten laps. On Sunday November 17 two further races are scheduled for 9:10am and 11:25pm.

Sunday’s action can be seen and heard live on the link from the www.thenationals.com.au, and later on SBS’ Speedweek and Fox’s Speed at times to be confirmed. More information and updates on the Dial Before You Dig Australian Saloon Cars are available at www.salooncars.net.au while complete details on the Shannons Nationals and all its categories can be viewed on www.thenationals.com.au.
