75th NATIONALS ROUND TO KICK OFF 2014
THE SHANNONS Australian Motor Racing Nationals is building for its best season yet – and has confirmed the celebrations will kick off early at the opening round this year.
The Nationals will celebrate their 75th round at Sandown International Raceway in Melbourne, with a bumper program that includes some of the highest profile national racing categories in Australia.
The opening round on the March 28-30 weekend will expand to a three-day program to accommodate six national categories, including the Australian GT Championship, Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship and the opening Australian Manufacturers Championship (AMChamps) enduro of the season.

To celebrate the 75th Shannons Nationals round, series officials are currently planning a special season launch to be held on the Thursday afternoon prior to the race meeting commencing, which will include a special meeting ride session to kick off the season.
The series has produced a special 75th round celebration graphic to help celebrate the occasion, one that kicks off a massive month of motorsport in Melbourne that includes the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix and the Phillip Island Historics.
“It all worked in very nicely when we realised that Sandown was also the 75th Shannons Nationals round, so we wanted to make an impact and really showcase all that the series has to offer,” said Series Director, Rob Curkpatrick.
“Sandown’s program represents almost every type of racing that the Shannons Nationals hosts throughout the year, from GT vehicles to open wheelers, Sports Cars and production-based vehicles as well.
“There was an opportunity to get some additional track time on the Thursday and working with the Sandown team, we’ve grabbed that to properly launch the season and give teams the opportunity to get their sponsors in the cars for some rides.
“Sandown will kick off a massive year and we’re already excited about the level of interest coming from competitors from all the categories that will be joining the series in 2014.”
The Sandown Round includes a mixture of sprint and endurance racing, with the three-hour AMChamps enduro closing out a weekend that includes two, one-hour races for Australian GT and two 50-minute races for the Radical Australia Cup.
Racing is spread across two days with the series announcing that weekend tickets will be available for just $30 – with children under 14 admitted free. The famous Sandown ‘Red Hill’ will also be opened for the first time with spectators encouraged to bring their BBQs to make the most of the day.
The series is also currently taking expressions of interest from car clubs keen to take part in the meeting – with a unique car-club ticketing offer also in place.
