KUMHO SERIES RACERS PAST AND PRESENT TO TACKLE ADELAIDE
V8 Development Series opener to showcase range of Kumho V8 talent
A RANGE of past and present drivers from the Kumho Tyres Australian V8 Touring Car Series are among the grid for next weekend’s opening round of the V8 Supercar Development Series on the streets of Adelaide at the Clipsal 500.
No less than 11 of the 31 drivers entered in Adelaide have ties to the Kumho V8 Touring Car Series. A last minute entry for Adelaide is last year’s Kumho Series runner-up Ryan Simpson, who will drive an ex-Ford Performance Racing Falcon for MW Motorsport in his debut in the Development Series.
2012 Kumho Series champion Josh Hunter will drive an ex-Garry Rogers Motorsport Commodore for RSport Engineering, while local South Australian Dan Day will make his Development Series debut in an ex-Nick Percat/Walkinshaw Commodore.
Another local driver, Josh Kean, joined the Development Series last year and competed at Winton and Bathurst. He will again drive his ex-James Courtney/Holden Racing Team Commodore. Kumho Series round winner Morgan Haber is again competing in the category for MW Motorsport, while long-time Kumho driver Matt Hansen is making the move this season to the Development Series in the ex-Monster/Triple Eight Commodore.
Hansen’s car will be run by former Kmart Racing mechanic Tom Rogers, who is also looking after the newly-acquired, ex-Tony D’Alberto, FPR-built Falcon of Jim Pollicina.
Young gun Jack Le Brocq made a one-off Kumho Series start in the final round at Sandown last year and steps up into the Development Series with Kumho team Image Racing as part of a two-car team with Taz Douglas.
Kumho Series graduate Michael Hector will again drive an ex-Scott McLaughlin Falcon for Matt Stone Racing, while Aaron Tebb will again drive an ex-Garry Rogers Motorsport Commodore having first started racing in the Kumho category.
2009 Kumho Series champion Adam Wallis will also be on the grid in Adelaide for his home round in his ex-Lee Holdsworth/GRM Commodore.
The 2014 Kumho Tyres Australian V8 Touring Car Series will begin at Mallala Motorsport Park in South Australia on April 25-27 as part of the Shannons Australian Motor Racing Nationals.
