Evangelou and Ex-Ford Performance Racing CAT Falcon make 2014 debut

FORMER Kumho Tyres Australian V8 Touring Car Series champion Tony Evangelou will return to the series this weekend in the second round of 2014 at Winton Motor Raceway in north-east Victoria.

Evangelou, who drives an ex-Ford Performance Racing Falcon for the 501 Performance team, won last year’s Winton round in addition to claiming victory at the three-kilometre circuit in 2010.

Evangelou missed the opening round of the season at Mallala in South Australia but will be back on the grid this weekend.

Voight will drive his recently purchased ex-Holden Racing Team Commodore VZ at Winton.

Queenslander Ramon Connell will make just his second Kumho Series appearance in an ex-Cameron McLean Falcon AU.

Sydneysider Ryan Simpson, driving an ex-Craig Lowndes Falcon, leads the series by 20 points over rookie Justin Ruggier of Eggleston Motorsport.

Simpson is aiming for his fifth consecutive round win in the Kumho Series as well as his sixth straight pole position.

Private practice will be held on Friday with official practice, qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday and the final two races on Sunday.

Online streaming coverage will be provided on the Sunday at with television coverage to follow on SBS’ ‘Speedweek’ and SPEED TV Australia in the following weeks.
