LINDORFF GETS THROUGH FOR WIN

STARTING SIXTH on the grid, Travis Lindorff (Pakenham Tyres Holden Commodore) has come through to dominate the action-packed first 30-lap leg of the DIAL BEFORE YOU DIG CHALLENGE at the Winton third round of the Australian Super Six Touring Car Series.

Kane Baxter-Smith (Pfitzner Performance Gearboxes Ford Falcon) was second while Ben Grice (Hinde Transport Falcon) just held off Jason Leoncini (Inland Motor Body Works Commodore) for third.

Similarly, Harley Phelan (Kleenduct Commodore) stoutly defended fifth from the Gavin Ross Blackwell Race Engines Commodore. Ross had won the start but along with Baxter-Smith and Shawn Jamieson (Morphett Vale Garages Commodore) speared off at turn one while many further back in the field, joined them in avoiding the melee.

Leoncini inherited a brief lead before Luke Westall (Transley Solutions Falcon) passed him. Lindorff was the next one into the lead, holding it until his compulsory pitstop.

Westall regathered the lead until his stop, Leoncini then took over before Mark Primmer (Dial Before You Dig Falcon) had a turn and became the last to take his CPS.

Lindorff was back in front when the order settled. But Jamieson was coming, grabbing the lead at the halfway mark and seemingly in the box seat to take the race, until the gearbox broke five laps later.

Shaun Woodhouse (Sapronos Pizza Holden) finished a solid seventh, clear of Westall who had earlier been knocked off the track at turn one after contact with Phelan. Behind Westall, the West Australians Chris Lillis (Cachet Homes Commodore) finished just in front of Rick Gill (Rick Gill Motorcycles) after the pair diced for most of the race.

Falcons filled out the remainder of the field with Dave Wright ahead of Tony Auddino, team mates Cameron Moss and Mark Primmer, Phil Gray and Mark Bryan.

Earlier Jamieson had topped qualifying and went on to post the fastest time in the Top Ten Shootout ahead of Ross and Baxter-Smith. Gill failed to complete his lap after going off the circuit.
