ROUND FOUR SUNDAY WRAP
QUEENSLAND AND FORD TOPS STATE AND MAKES
CONTINUING ON from Saturday’s race one, Kane Baxter-Smith notched up two more victories to win the fourth round of the DIAL BEFORE YOU DIG Australian Super Six Touring Car Series at Queensland Raceway last Sunday. Billed as a state verses state, make verses make contest, honours went to the Sunshine State and the Blue Oval runner.
Driving his Pfitzner Performances Gearboxes Ford Falcon AU, the Queenslander had to overcome the challengers from the Victorian Holdens. Jason Leoncini headed the Commodore barrage, his Dej's Party Shop VT getting alongside, and on a couple of occasions at least briefly headed the Ford.
But ultimately Leoncini had to turn his attention to securing second spot from the challenging Gavin Ross and his Carpet Shed Commodore. In race two he did, but whilst challenging for the lead in race three, Leoncini slipped wide at turn three and surrendered second in the bargain.
In both the races on Sunday at the Shannons Nationals meeting, series leader Victorian Travis Lindorff was fourth in his Pakenham Tyres Commodore and was able to maintain is front running in the popular six-cylinder Holden verses Ford series with two rounds to go.
Queenslander Ben Grice (Hinde Transport Ford) was fifth in each Sunday race, shadowed by fellow Queenslanders John McCleverty (Zedtec Falcon) in race two, and Lindsay Kearns (Scotts Rod Exhaust Falcon) in race three with Rick Gill (Rick Gill Motorcycles Ford) in close company.
In the overall round standings Gill finished ahead of Kearns in seventh while the respective Kleenduct Commodore and Cachet Homes Commodore of Victorian Harley Phelan and Chris Lillis rounded out the top ten.
