THE SHANNONS Australian Motor Racing Nationals has unveiled the full 2015 race and event schedule today at an especially pertinent time for the motorsport industry.

Results of an independent report commissioned by CAMS were released on Monday showing that motorsport contributes $2.7 Billion towards the Australian Economy.

The Shannons Nationals is Australia’s largest national-level motorsport series and in 2014 hosted more than 400 competitors at nine events around the country, generating significant input into local economies during each event.

409 drivers started 142 races at Shannons Nationals rounds this year, driving 321 cars and together completing more than 780,000 racing Kilometres – or 19.5 times around the equator of the Earth.

The largest rounds attracted more than 120 competitors which, when crew members, family, friends and supporters are included, generate a significant impact on local economies at each round – especially regional communities and towns.

Shannons Nationals organisers estimate an average of more than 1,100 people directly associated with the racing, categories, series, media or sponsors attend each round – staying in local accommodation and supporting local businesses.

2014 represented the strongest year yet for the Nationals with well supported and incredibly-competitive racing across the season.

44 different drivers won races in 2014 and an incredible 110 scored a race podium finish at some point in the season, 26% of all drivers competing in 2014.

The 2015 round breakdown confirmed today showcases an incredibly diverse program of nine rounds, following a similar format as 2014.

The (already announced) dates remain broadly the same as 2014 allowing promoters date equity and consistency when promoting race meetings, and competitors the same in planning travel arrangements.

Major changes in the 2015 schedule include the AMChamp Australian 4 Hour Enduro at Sydney Motorsport Park switching to the November event at the high-speed Sydney venue, allowing the series to ‘end with a bang’ and a major endurance race.

Key AMChamp enduro races remain at Sandown and Phillip Island, with twin-200km races set for Queensland Raceway and Wakefield Park.

Round 1, at Sandown, the first of two visits to Phillip Island and the annual August visit to Queensland Raceway are considered ‘blockbuster’ events with all three offering massive value race programs for fans and competitors alike.

The Sandown round includes seven categories, endurance racing, V8’s, two open wheel categories and GT vehicles, while the Phillip Island round is quickly becoming a benchmark endurance weekend in the Australian Motorsport calendar.

The Australian GT 101 and Great Southern 4 Hour races highlight a weekend that includes the return of Porsche Carrera Cup Australia and the Nationals’ pair of high-profile open-wheel categories in Formula 3 and Formula Ford.

Eight categories will compete at Queensland Raceway in the busiest race program of the year – offering more than 25 races and the annual ‘fight in the night’ to Queensland fans.

Mallala (Clem Smith Cup for Kerrick Sports Sedans), Winton (Super Six Touring Car Challenge) and Wakefield Park (Wakefield AMChamp Twin200s and a unique Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship grand finale’) will also host ‘marquee’ rounds for selected Shannons Nationals categories.

The 2014 Shannons Nationals RACER of the year winner will be awarded this Friday.
