Formula Ford Association launches 2015 Australian Formula Ford Series

After a strong season in 2014, the Australian Formula Ford Association has officially launched the 2015 National series, announcing added refinements to build and further improve on last year’s success.

With registration now open to competitors of both Formula Ford 1600 (Kent) and Formula Ford (Duratec) classes, the 2015 national series will be fiercely contested over six rounds.

With all rounds running on the Shannons Nationals schedule, the series benefits from increased media exposure, with live web broadcasts of Sunday’s action on Nationals TV, and a highlights package on SBS’s Speedweek program.

Once again, the overall winner of the Series will receive a test in a USF2000 car in the United States, the first step in the Road to Indy, an outstanding development programme for any aspiring driving talent.

Among the announced improvements for 2015, the National series will enjoy broadened eligibility for 1600cc Kent cars to allow cars from 1990 onwards to compete, instead of the previous regulation allowing only cars Manufactured from 1998.

“We were overwhelmed at the support we received for our revamped 2014 series with an average of twenty one cars on the grid throughout the year. We achieved our goals of making Formula Ford the most cost effective national level open wheel racing category and this continues into 2015. We have reviewed our year and it was clear that our strategy was strong so only a few changes will be seen in 2015 in regards to broadening eligibility of the Formula Ford 1600 cars.”, said Formula Ford Association chairman John Van Leeuwen.

The support for Formula Ford at state, historic and national level racing is strong which is testament to the strength of the formula of cars as not only being cost effective but also a great basis for young drivers to develop their skills and older drivers to have a bit of fun in.

The Australian Formula Ford Series kicks off at Sandown International Raceway, March 27 – 29, with leading teams already reporting increased expressions of interest from potential new racers in Australia’s leading open wheel series.

Competitors can access the series registration forms by visiting the Formula Ford Association website at www.formulaford.org.au.

The 2015 Formula Ford Series is proudly supported by Avon tyres, Andersen Promotions, Race Fuels, Kincrome and Ferodo.
