PERKINS JOINS KUMHO SERIES SANDOWN FIELD

HOLDEN Racing Team V8 Supercar endurance driver Jack Perkins will compete in next weekend’s opening round of the Kumho Tyre Australian V8 Touring Car Series at Sandown in Melbourne.

Perkins will join Eggleston Motorsport’s two-car team for the weekend and thus re-connect with the team for which he competed two years ago in the V8 Supercar Development Series.

He will be teammate for the weekend to rookie teenager Liam McAdam.

The 28-year-old will drive a VZ Commodore – the same car won the 2006 V8 Supercars Championship with Rick Kelly, the 2007 V8 Development Series with Tony D’Alberto and last year claimed the Kumho Series with EMS and driver Justin Ruggier.

“I’m really excited to be back with Eggleston Motorsport,” says Perkins.

“They run a top notch race team and we have had great success together back in 2013 in the Dunlop Series.

“I'm also very excited to get back in a race car having secured an awesome enduro ride with James Courtney and HRT. It's important to get racing miles, and if I can't get those miles in the Dunlop Series, the Kumho Series is an obvious option.

“The car is an ex-Walkinshaw Holden Commodore so it shares heritage and history from my enduro team, and with the first V8 Supercars enduro at Sandown for the 500-kilometre race in September it was well worth getting something together.”

Perkins finished fourth in the 2013 DVS for Eggleston Motorsport despite missing the opening round and won the Queensland Raceway round that year for the team.

“We first spoke about Jack doing some miles when his enduro drive was announced and having worked together very successfully in recent years, it was an easy decision to make for both sides,” says EMS Team Manager Rachael Wagg.

"Jack will be a great team mate for Liam at Sandown and will no doubt assist him greatly in his learning curve.”

Sandown will host the opening round of five in this year’s Kumho Series for ex-V8 Supercars with events at Winton, Queensland Raceway, Phillip Island and Sydney Motorsport Park to follow.

A full entry list for next weekend’s Sandown round on March 28-29 will be confirmed in due course.
