Father And Son In Winton Fight
KUMHO Tyre Australian V8 Touring Car Series teenage rookie Alex Rullo will have a competitor on the track in the next round at Winton keeping a careful eye on him – his own father!
The 14-year-old from Perth will compete against father Peter over the June 13-14 weekend with the duo driving a pair of Falcons for MW Motorsport.
Rullo Snr has competed in the Kumho Series before in one of the MW Motorsport-run Falcons, however Winton will be his first appearance of the season in the category.
“It’ll be great to have Dad there not just in the team, but on the track as well,” says Rullo Jnr, who has spent two days testing at Winton recently.
“It was great to get a feel for the track. I’m feeling pretty confident now.
“The team analysed a lot of data and gave me some great advice about how I could improve my times.”
Rullo will turn 15 on June 15, the day after round two of the series for ex-V8 Supercars, which is held as part of the Shannons Nationals.
He became the youngest driver to ever race a V8 tourer in the opening round at Sandown in March.
Rullo qualified fourth but failed to finish two of the three races – one due to an engine problem and the other due to involvement in a multi-car accident.
Practice for the Winton round of the Kumho Series will be held on Friday June 12 with qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday June 13 and the remaining two races on Sunday June 14.
