Hill dominates Round 4 of Australian Formula Ford Series

Cameron Hill consolidated his lead of the 2015 Formula Ford Championship with a commanding display at Round 4 of the series at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Hill claimed maximum points for the round, taking pole and three race victories. Hill has now won six races on the trot, following a similar display for Round 3 at Winton.

He now leads the championship by 32 points.

“I can’t thank everyone enough,” said Hill.

“I’ve got great support from the team and my family – we’re all working really well together and it showed this weekend.

Asked about his title chances, Hill said it was too early to think about what might happen.

“We’re going to head to the next round and treat it like every other. The car’s good, we’ve found pretty good form so the results are good – everything is in place for getting strong results.”

While Hill spent the weekend out in front, the battle for the minor positions was fierce across all three races, with Luis Leeds taking out second position for the round ahead of Christian Morina.

The battle for minor positions was fierce throughout all three races, and was responsible for much of the rounds highlights.

Race 1 saw the Victorian duo of Christian Morina and Jake Spencer round out the podium with Louis Leeds in fourth. In a fantastic battle for fifth, Mitch Martin eventually led home Andrew Kahl and Thomas Maxwell for sixth and seventh.

With Jake Spencer recording a DNF in Race 2, the podium battle was left to Leeds and Morina, with Leeds coming out on top after a fine move into Turn 2 on Lap 8.

Luke King produced a strong performance in the second race coming from eighth to finish fourth, holding out Andrew Kahl, Thomas Maxwell and Mitch Martin.

Race 3 saw Leeds get the better of Morina for the podium spots, with plenty of action behind them as Maxwell, King and Spencer fought out the minor positions.

An action packed weekend for Leanne Tander saw her end Lap 1 of Race 1 in last position. Tander then fought hard through the field for the remainder of the day finishing 14th in Race 1, and ninth in Race 2. Tander got as high as fourth late in Race 3, but after running wide on Lap 8, she ended up in tenth.

“I was involved in incidents in Race 1 and 2 which didn’t help but I had a great time,” Tander said.

“We made up a lot of positions with the pace of the car not through others going off which is a positive for the team.

“It was disappointing not to hold on to fourth in the last race; I ran wide and the freight train got me.”

A fantastic weekend for Luke Ellery saw him take three victories in the Kent class over Cameron Walters and Jimmy Bailey.

Round five of the Australian Formula Ford Series takes place at Queensland Raceway between August 7-9.
