MASTERS MAKE THEIR RETURN TO PHILLIP ISLAND

The fastest track on the Australian Touring Car Masters calendar is here, as the category heads to Phillip Island for their sixth round and the Shannons Tourist Trophy this weekend.

Battles will unfold over the round, with current Pro Master leader John Bowe leading the way, 59 points ahead of Eddie Albenica in second.

Touring car legend Glenn Seton is third, leading the way from Mark King in fourth.

Steve Johnson slipped back to fifth place after a disastrous round at Queensland Raceway, and is still in contention for the series lead, trailing Bowe by 167 points.

The showdown will be down to speed and horsepower on the fast Phillip Island circuit and with the closest battle for the series lead in years it’s set to be a big round.

Albenica's XB Falcon is set to be a strong contender at the Phillip Island circuit, finishing on the podium in each of the three races held at Phillip Island in 2015.

Phillip Island will also feature the ProAm and ProSports classes, with Jason Gomersall leading the way in his A9X Torana, and Adam Garwood also now behind the wheel of a hatchback Torana.

The series returns to the Shannons Nationals program since the first Nationals round at Sandown back in April.

The Australian Touring Car Masters will hit the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on Friday for their opening practice.
