COLLINS RETURNS TO SMSP THIS WEEKEND

The return of F3 winner Jon Collins adds spice to this weekend’s final round at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Collins returns to his McDonalds Gilmour Racing Dallara F311-Mercedes mount that he raced last year, replacing Chris Anthony in a one off end-of-season appearance.

“I’m very excited to be reunited with my Formula 3 family and it's even better to be back with Errol and the team in which we had great success last year," Collins said.

"Looking forward to getting back behind the wheel and taking the battle to Tim (Macrow). Thankfully it's my home track and I know the place like the back of my hand, so we should be on top of things come Friday!"

Collins tests himself against category yardstick, and champion-elect Tim Macrow (#88 AIE Alpine Motor Sports Dallara/Mercedes). Macrow is aiming for a unique achievement: He can become the first driver to win the final race at every round of an F3 title, a feat never achieved before.

With an unassailable lead in the championship, the only thing on Macrow’s mind is the outright result.

“All the top positions in the championship are decided, so it should be a straight out fight," Macrow said.

"The car performed well in July and it’ll be a great fight again Jon and Roland Legge.”

Roland Legge, returns to keep both Macrow and Collins honest, with “Lightning” looking to make amends after an accident at the last Sydney round in July.

Cameron Shields who stepped up into the Premier class halfway through the season is also one to watch this weekend.

On publication of the entry list, The Kumho Cup is finalised in favour of Wilson Team Racing’s Shane Wilson, which has led him to upgrade his F304 specification Dallara to a 2007 National Class car for the final round, moving from the unlucky (for some) 13 to car number 27.

His rivals in National Class will come both from the R-Tek stable, with Roman Krumins and Nathan Kumar.

The rapidly improving Kumar looks favourite on paper to take his third National Class win of the season, but Wilson is undoubtedly a threat if the new car unloads well.

Formula Race Car Association President Ross McAlpine completes the field in his F304 Dallara.

Off Track, Formula 3 Management together with representatives from Kumho Tyre, will make an announcement regarding the final donation to the Luke Spalding #WeFlyWith23 charity fund. Limited #WeFlyWith23 stickers available for purchase from the F3 paddock during the weekend.
